THE ISE-SHIMA LINER THAT IS NOT BOUND FOR ISE-SHIMA

This morning, I’m traveling from Nara to the city of Wakayama. The first leg is a limited express service of Kintetsu Railway bound for Osaka-Namba, and luckily I could ride the one operated by the 23000 series EMU, which is usually used as the Ise-Shima Liner limited express service bringing tourists to the Ise-Shima region in Mie Prefecture from Nagoya, Osaka, and Kyoto. The last time I took this train, I had one of its Deluxe Seats, so this time I tried its semi-compartment seating marketed as the “Salon Seats.” The train runs through the sprawling suburban landscapes between Nara and Osaka. There is a bar counter section on the train, though it now feels abandoned.

今朝は奈良から和歌山の街へ向かう。ファーストレグは大阪難波行きの近鉄特急。ラッキーなことに、普段は伊勢志摩ライナーとして名古屋、大阪、京都から三重県の伊勢志摩エリアへ観光客を運んでいる23000系電車に乗ることができた。前回伊勢志摩ライナーに乗ったときはデラックス席をとったので、今回はサロン席として販売されているセミコンパートメントタイプのシートを試してみることにした。列車は奈良と大阪の間で果てしなく続く郊外の風景の中を走っていく。バーカウンターみたいなものがついていたが、使われていない感じだった。
