SOUTH TO SOUTH ON THE SOUTHERN PART1

The second leg of my trip from Nara to Wakayama is the Southern limited express service of Nankai Electric Railway. When I arrived at the assigned platform, I only saw the ordinary-looking 7100 series commuter EMU, but soon realized that the front half of the train is made up of reserved-seat cars using the 10000 series EMU, which feels more appropriate for a limited express service. Of course, I got a ticket for one of the seats in these cars. The Southern connects Namba in Osaka’s south side with Wakayama in the south of Osaka. And the company name “Nankai” literally means “southern sea.” I cannot imagine a better name for this service.

奈良から和歌山への旅、その第2レグは南海電気鉄道の特急サザン。指定されたプラットフォームに着いたら、はじめはごく普通の通勤用車両である7100系電車しか目に入らなかった。でもすぐ、列車の前半分に、優等列車によりふさわしい10000系電車を使った指定席車が連結されていることに気づいた。今回はもちろん、この指定席車の席をとってある。サザンは大阪のミナミと大阪から見て南にある和歌山を結ぶ特急として運行中。そして会社の名前も南海。これ以上適切な列車名はないだろう。
