THE BEATLES-ERA TERMINAL
The most interesting thing to see at Liverpool Airport is actually a few bus stops away from the terminal. It is the old terminal building, opened in the 1930s and used when the airport was known as Speke Aerodrome, until a new terminal was constructed along the newer south runway in 1986. This fabulous art deco landmark is famous as the point of departure—and triumphant return—of The Beatles when they conquered the world. Today, it serves as the Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport Hotel. Although the landside portion was heavily modified during renovation, the airside facade and features such as the beautiful spiral staircases still retain the look of the original terminal.
