OSHIKA PENINSULA, ISHINOMAKI

Serene. Beautiful. Untouched. And undiscovered. You rarely see artificial things except winding roads. Driving around the Oshika Peninsula was such a wonderful experience. The peninsula extending into the Pacific Ocean, together with the islands surrounding it, forms part of Ishinomaki City. Hamaguri Beach lies at the base of this peninsula. I believe this region has the potential to attract travellers from around the world as an unconventional destinatio—one completely different from Japan’s traditional tourist spots. It holds endless possibilities.

静謐で、美しく、手つかずの自然があり、まだあまり知られていない。曲がりくねった道路以外の人工物をほとんど見かけない。牡鹿半島を巡るドライブは、実に素晴らしい体験だった。太平洋に突き出した半島も、周囲の島々も、石巻市の一部。半島のつけ根には蛤浜もある。このエリアは日本にある従来の観光地とはまったく違うデスティネーションとして、世界中の旅人を魅きつけることができるのではないか。可能性に満ちた場所だと思う。
