MY PILGRIMAGE: THE MUSEUM OF FLIGHT / BIRDS IN THE PARK

More birds from the museum park. This is the sleekest passenger plane of the piston-engine era—the Lockheed 1049G Super Constellation. This aircraft was once converted into a hotel conference room (!) and later a restaurant, before finally finding the perfect place for her retirement.

Its low-rise body, with less gap between fuselage and ground, makes her look really beautiful on the ground. The kick-ass rear-mounted Pratt & Whitney engines make every climb and turn a lot of fun—I enjoyed them most on the Continental Micronesia flight between Saipan and Guam. And of course, people (including D.B. Cooper) loved its rear stairs. I miss flying on the 727.

胴体が地面に近いので、地上にいる時の姿が実に美しく見える「シャコタン」ボディ。上昇や旋回を圧倒的に楽しいものにする、パワフルなリアマウントのプラット&ホイットニーエンジン（僕がそれを最も楽しんだのは、サイパンーグアム間のコンチネンタル・ミクロネシア便）。そしてもちろん、D.B.クーパーを含め、みんなに愛された機体後部のエアステア。727で飛んでいた日々が懐かしい。
