THE OLD TRAMLINE AND THE SEA

As a tramcar lover, if a line runs 18 kilometres along the shoreline, I can’t resist riding it. The Blackpool Tramway, one of the first practical electric tramways in the world, is another reason I came to this beach town. It is like the ultimate Enoden—the beloved seaside Enoshima Electric Railway in Japan. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the classic double-decker car, but I enjoyed riding the modern Bombardier Flexity 2 low-floor car to the north and south every day.

海岸沿いを18キロにわたってトラムが走っていると聞けば、トラム愛好家の血が騒ぐ。世界で最初に作られた実用的な電気軌道の一つであるブラックプール・トラムも、今回この海沿いの街へ来た理由の一つ。それはまるで、江ノ電の究極バージョンのようなもの。残念ながらクラシックなダブルデッカー車を見ることはできなかったが、毎日北へ南へ、モダンなボンバルディア製フレキシティ2低床車に乗り続けた。
