No one is stationed at reception in the evening. Laundry cannot be collected by a housekeeper—you have to bring it down yourself. The breakfast venue feels more like a bustling cafeteria. Perhaps this is simply the reality of a hotel that falls one star short of five, in a somewhat worn-out UK tourist destination. Still, it’s disappointing that the current operation fails to live up to the glory of the hotel’s historic building.

夕方以降はレセプションに人がいない。ランドリーのピックアップをハウスキーパーに頼むことができず、自分で1階まで持っていかなくてはならない。朝食会場は落ち着きのないカフェテリアのよう。おそらくこれが、ややくたびれたイギリスの観光地にある、星一つ分ファイブスターに届かないホテルの現実なのかもしれない。歴史ある建物には過去の栄華の香りが残っているので、今のオペレーションがそれにふさわしくないのは、やはりちょっと残念。
