HISTORIC MITSUBISHI PLANES

I visited the Komaki South Plant of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. In front of the company’s historical museum, several of Mitsubishi’s former aircraft once operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force are on display.

三菱重工の小牧南工場を訪問した。史料室の外には航空自衛隊で使われた三菱の歴史的な航空機たちが展示されている。

This is the F-104J—a supersonic fighter from the 1950s capable of flying at Mach 2. Note its remarkably short main wings. Mitsubishi built this Lockheed-designed bird under license in Japan.

これはF104J。1950年代のマッハ２で飛べる超音速戦闘機。主翼がなんと短いことか。三菱はこのロッキード機を日本でライセンス生産していた。

Another U.S. fighter built under license in Japan—the F-86F. Some may be reminded of the Korean War when looking at this bird.

こちらも日本がライセンス生産したアメリカの戦闘機、F86F。朝鮮戦争を思い出す人もいるかもしれない。
