THORNBURY CASTLE HOTEL: CHECK-IN

Passing through a stone-built gate,…

…then through a stone-built inner gateway, I am checking into a Tudor castle built in the early 16th century by Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham, who was later beheaded on accusations of trying to “Kill the King” (the intro riff by Ritchie Blackmore, please).

This is the door to my chamber.

My chamber is upstairs. Of course, there is no lift in a 16th-century castle. Sorry, bell team, for asking you to carry my insanely heavy Rimowa up this staircase.
