TEAM NIPPON-GO

To write a novel Tsubasa wo kudasai~Freedom in the Sky based on the true story of the Nippon-Go—an airplane built by the Japanese that flew around the world in 1939—and a lost American hero of the sky, novelist Maha Harada assembled a team called Team Nippon-Go. The team supports her with technical and historical expertise in aviation and also investigates the historical facts surrounding the story. Members of Team Nippon-Go include Toshio Yabe, General Manager of Mori Building, who created the company’s world-famous 1/1000 model of Tokyo and produced the short film Tokyo Scanner with director Mamoru Oshii, and is an expert in military aviation; Yumi Yanagi, an editor at The Mainichi Newspapers who works with Ms. Harada; Sachiko Yamaguchi, a trusted co-pilot at Mori Building for Mr. Yabe; myself; and, of course, Maha-san herself.

日本人によって製造され、1939年に世界一周飛行をした航空機「ニッポン号」。そして忽然と消えた、アメリカの空の英雄。そんな史実をベースにした小説「翼をください~Freedom in the Sky」を書くために、小説家の原田マハさんが「チーム・ニッポン号」を結成した。チームのクルーは、原田さんの執筆を航空の技術的歴史的側面からサポートし、物語の周辺にある歴史上の出来事も調査していく。メンバーは次のとおり。森ビルの室長であり、同社で1000分の1の東京の都市模型を作ってそれを世界的に有名にした人であり、押井守監督とショートフィルム「東京スキャナー」を作った人であり、軍事航空分野の専門家、矢部俊男さん。原田さんの編集担当、毎日新聞社の柳悠美さん。矢部さんの素晴らしいコパイロット、森ビルの山口佐知子さん。僕。そしてもちろん、原田さん。
