SHISUI, A LUXURY COLLECTION HOTEL, NARA: THE MAIN BUILDING

The hotel’s main building was built in 1922 as the Nara Prefectural Governor’s Residence. Naturally, Shisui sits in a prominent city-center location, close to Todai-ji Temple, Nara Park, and a rail station. Inside, the room where a Japanese emperor signed the San Francisco Peace Treaty and the Japan–U.S. Security Treaty after World War II has been preserved. The room is unexpectedly small, as the treaty was signed with only the emperor’s grand chamberlain present.

ホテルのメイン棟はもともと奈良県の知事公舎だった建物で、1922年に建てられた。結果的に紫翠は東大寺や奈良公園、鉄道駅に近いとても良い場所にある。中には、第二次大戦後に天皇がサンフランシスコ講和条約と日米安全保障条約に署名した部屋もきれいに残されている。侍従長だけを従えて署名したらしく、部屋は意外に小さい。
