GLOUCESTERSHIRE WARWICKSHIRE STEAM RAILWAY: GOTHERINGTON STATION

The train continues to Cheltenham Race Course station, but I got off at Gotherington—one stop before the terminus. There, I could finally see the engine: 2807 of the GWR Class 2800, built in 1905. This locomotive retired from the GWR five years before I was born, but thanks to a full overhaul, it still works as if it were a regular workhorse for a local railway.

列車は終着駅であるチェルトナム競馬場駅まで行くが、一つ前のゴザリントンで下車してみた。で、ここでようやく機関車とご対面。列車を引っ張ってくれていたのは、1905年に作られたGWR 2800型の2807号機だった。GWRでの運行からは僕が生まれる5年前に引退したが、完全なオーバーホールを経て、今でもまるで地方鉄道の主力機関車のように走り続けている。
