ONCE UPON A TIME BEFORE THE STAR WAS BORN

One of the production team members from a Thai Airways International ad campaign I worked on during my Dentsu days gave me this. If you look closely at the numbers on the bottom right, you’ll see this “FlightCard” was printed in 1989. I have no idea how United actually used it—maybe it was for requesting missing mileage credit. Interestingly, five of the listed partner airlines never joined Star Alliance, which wasn’t established until eight years later. And Swissair! Those were the days.

これは、僕が電通時代に携わっていたタイ国際航空の広告キャンペーンの制作チームにいた方がプレゼントしてくれた。右下の数字をよく見ると1989年に印刷されたものと推測できるが、UAがこの「フライトカード」を実際にどのように使っていたのかはちょっとわからない。きっとマイレージの事後加算用だったのだろう。スターアライアンスの誕生はまだ8年も先の話で、ここに載っているパートナーエアラインのうち、5社がスターアライアンスエアラインではないのが面白い。そして、スイス航空！いい時代だった。
