I’m taking a day trip to Quanzhou on the high-speed train CRH—the pride of China. When I first visited this country in the early ’90s, buying a train ticket was a reckless challenge, even at a ticket counter dedicated to foreigners. Today, the experience feels almost identical to queuing at a station in Tokyo.

中国の誇る高速列車CRHで泉州へデイトリップ。初めてこの国を訪れた90年代初めは、たとえ外国人用窓口でも、列車のチケットを買うことは酷い体験だった。いまではそれは、東京の駅の列に並ぶのと、さほど変わらない感覚になっている。
