TO KINMEN ON A DOUGLAS BIRD

This morning, I’m flying to Kinmen Island on Uni Air’s MD-90. Kinmen is a Taiwanese island located a little "too close" to mainland China. When I was younger, the MD-90 was a factory-fresh aircraft powered by V2500 engines—partly developed in Japan. Today, these Douglas-blooded birds have become an endangered species.
