Matsumoto Airport used to be served by the MD-87 jet. Facing the financial crisis, JAL announced the withdrawal of all routes from here, and this modern airport has been struggling to survive ever since. When I think about JR’s slow Azusa Express—which takes about two and a half hours from Shinjuku to Matsumoto—I feel that commuter flights from Haneda could be possible if the HND slots are expanded. I hope some airlines will consider it. Fuji Dream, perhaps?
