GOODBYE, WBC

To me, WBC doesn’t mean a baseball tournament. It means World Business Class on my dear Northwest Airlines. Unfortunately, starting this month, the name will be merged into Delta’s BusinessElite and disappear as part of the Delta–NWA merger. Speaking of WBC, I still have fond memories of the smaller upper deck of the 747-200. It was originally designed for First Class but later converted to WBC after NWA discontinued international First Class service, keeping the same interior. The result was a spacious, private cabin and one of the best C-class experiences of my entire flying life. So long, WBC. Thank you for all the wonderful trans-Pacific memories. 僕にとってWBCは野球の大会のことではない。それは我が親愛なるノースウエスト航空のワールドビジネスクラスのこと。デルタとノースの合併のため、残念ながらその名前は今月からデルタ航空のビジネスエリートに統合されて消えることになった。WBCといえば今でも747-200の小さなアッパーデッキを懐かしく思い出す。-200のアッパーデッキはもともとファーストクラスだったのだが、ノースがインターナショナルファーストクラスを廃止したあとは、ファーストのインテリアを残したままWBCとして使われていた。だからそのキャビンはゆったりとしていて、プライベートな雰囲気があり、僕が体験したCクラスの中で最も素晴らしいものの一つだった。さよなら、WBC。沢山の素晴らしい太平洋横断の思い出をありがとう。これは僕のトラベルファイルの中にある1999年のメニュー。
