RED TAILS FOREVER

Shocking news has arrived here in Vienna in an official email from Northwest Airlines. Northwest will finally merge with Delta, and the new company will be called Delta. I can’t believe that the name Northwest, with more than 80 years of history, will disappear. I’ll miss DTW and MSP filled with red tails, those trans-Pacific flights on the 747-400 City of Tokyo, and the NW stories I’ve shared with my dear friend Ms. Robyn Boardman—a Minneapolis resident, our TVCM producer, and a big fan of this Minnesota-based airline. NW was the first non-Japanese airline in my flying life. Thank you, Red Tails, for countless memories and more than 1.3 million WorldPerks miles over the past 15 years.

ショッキングなニュースがノースウエスト航空からの公式Eメールとしてここウィーンに飛び込んできた。ノースがついにデルタと合併。新会社はデルタを名乗る。信じられないことに80年以上の歴史を持つノースウエストの名前が消え去る。赤い尾翼で埋め尽くされたデトロイト・メトロ空港やミネアポリス・セントポール空港。「シティ・オブ・トウキョウ」と名づけられた747-400での太平洋横断。ミネアポリス在住のTVCMプロデューサーで、ミネソタベースのこのエアラインの大ファンである親愛なるロビン・ボードマンと盛り上がるノース話の数々。それらがみんな過去のものになってしまう。ノースは僕の航空人生で最初に乗ったノン・ジャパニーズキャリアだった。レッドテールよ、数え切れない思い出と、15年間で130万マイル以上のワールドパークスマイルを有難う。
