2ND RTW 2: DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN-NEWARK

This is an unplanned addition to my round-the-world trip. I took a scheduled helicopter flight from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport on the East River to Newark Liberty to catch the Continental flight back to Narita.

世界一周に予定外のおまけ。成田に戻るコンチの便に乗るため、イーストリバーのピアにあるダウンタウン・マンハッタン・ヘリポートからニューアーク・リバティまでヘリコプターの定期便に乗る。

The heliport has the three-letter IATA code JRB, and if you’re flying with Continental you can check in your baggage there all the way to your final destination, which for me this time is Tokyo Narita. There is a small terminal building where you can get your boarding pass for both the heli flight and your connecting flight, and even go through TSA security. They also partner with Delta and EOS Airlines, and a connection to JFK is available as well.

ヘリポートにはJRBというIATAの3レター空港コードがつけられており、コンチネンタルに乗り継ぐ場合、最終目的地（今回は東京・成田）まで荷物を預け入れることができる。接続する成田行きのボーディングパスの発行も、TSAセキュリティチェックもの小さなターミナルでOK。同様の提携はデルタとEOSとも行っていて、JFKへのフライトもある。

A ten-minute flight to Liberty, then a few minutes’ walk to the lounge. Maybe the easiest way to get out of the USA from Manhattan. I wish I could fly longer in the chopper, but the 777 I’ll take next—the big one on the far right in the picture—is waiting for me. The 2nd leg of my round-the-world trip. ニューアーク・リバティまで10分。あとはラウンジへ数分歩くだけ。おそらくは最もスピーディなマンハッタンからのUS出国の仕方。もっとヘリで飛んでいたかったが、写真の右端で次に乗る777が待っている。世界一周の2レグ目。USヘリコプター Sikorsky S76B JRB-EWR。生涯446フライト目。ヘリコプターの定期便としてはモナコ－ニース間に続き2フライト目。
